REinstalling XP trouble

Hi-

I am trying to "clean" a hard drive (not sure of the right term!) and reinstall XP using original disk that came with the pc (which is a Dell), I go thru the proceedures to do this using the disk, when it gets to the last option, which if i remember right is a user agreement, I click on yes, and instead of deleting all info on the hard drive and starting the installation process, the pc boots back to windows!!!

Any ideas????
