Reinstalling Winxp

What happens when one tries to reinstall Winxp over the already installed system?

When I used any of the other systems, 3.10, 3.11, 95 A & B,
98 A & B, there were no problems at all. May I ask, will Winxp baulk at the very idea of a reinstall please?

regards

grimerz

Re: Reinstalling Winxp

It depends, If you have installed SP2 and your CD doesn't include SP2 on the installation disk you will get an error message saying that a newer version of XP is already installed. If this is the case then you would have to uninstall all SP2 updates to do a repair install.

Re: Reinstalling Winxp

Just to add: if you intend a Clean Install you will get to the step where you will Delete your existing partition. All data will be erased and XP will be installed Clean.

Re: Reinstalling Winxp

Thank you Bear and jephree.

I imagine jephree that if I elect to continue with the install then all my files etc. will not be erased??

Re: Reinstalling Winxp

A Clean Install will ERASE all DATA. It Formats the hard drive (or partition).

A Repair Install will not erase data. This is what Bear was referring to.
