Unhappy email attachments.

hi, can anyone advise why I have received emails with attachments that have NOT been sent by sender. When these attachments are opened they have a slide show of websites visited by my family and myself.I have tried to return or forward emails to let others see but the attachments do not seem to travel? with email.I am relatively new to computing and would much appreciate someones help.

cheers

Re: email attachments.

Just to clarify:

What do you mean by "slideshow of websites"? Is IE History opening? If so how is it appearing as a "slideshow"?

Are these e-mails from people you know? Is it only certain e-mails or all?

Is this a new problem? Do you run virus and malware scans?

If you right click one of these attachments what is the Properties?

I vaguely remember an issue like this before and will try to find it in the archives. In the meantime more details would help. Also screen shots if possible.

Re: email attachments.

How bizarre!! That definitely sounds to me like something very dodgy. Norton Internet Security and Spyware Doctor are the kind of anti-virus and malware (spyware) scans that Jephree is talking about. Have you run full system scans using those two programs? We also highly recommend Spybot Search & Destroy, which is widely regarded as the best anti-spyware program currently available for finding and fixing such problems. Give Jephree a chance to come back to you later tonight though (he's in the US so he's a few hours behind us) just in case he finds some information on a similar problem. Spybot Search & Destroy is free for personal use and you can download it from http://www.spybot.info.

Re: email attachments.

My most recent guess is it has something to do with the attachment extension.

Check the properties in the future before you open. If the extension is attachment.PPS this would start a Microsoft Power Point Slide Show.

You can set what application open what extensions via start > Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types

.PPS is default opened with Power Point Show.

So if the sender is sending you a .PPS attachment then that's why the slide show is opening.

The next question is why some of your local files are being mixed into the show?

I will look further.

Re: email attachments.

The attachment sent by the business' has a picture extension that opens with Windows Images. As for your friend's email, maybe he had a picture attachement. Im not 100% on this but you have images saved, so by opening the attachments, it launches windows image viewer. It will view recent images as well as ones that have been saved.

I hope this has helped

I have installed Spybot and applied advanced internet options to suggested setting.can only wait to see if this returns on a future email. The archive thread seems to be an identical problem.only thing is i dont seem to get original attachment sent.
