Computer Broke? Urgent Help Rqd

Hi all
Last night i was using my laptop fine (compaq presario 2500). turnt it off per usual. turnt it on later that evening and it wont go past the blue screen that says windows xp on it! any ideas what this could be please email to my email address asap. all help much appreciated.

are you using battery or AC power?

how do i get to safe mode? ac power.

when it's booting up press the F8 button it should give you a choice to go into safe mode.

yes have tried safe mode and it still wont go past blue screen. its like it has lost the log on screen and i havent any recovery discs

when you got to the option with safe mode etc have you tried Last Known Good Configuration?
