Unhappy my computer wont boot

There was an outage after which i could not start my computer
ever since it only shows this error "WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM". is either missing or corrupted.
please can someone tell me what to do.. its urgent because some of my files in the office depends on this.

can u do a CHKDSK by any chance, that usually helps things as it recovers some corrupt files

if you still have the original CD, can you not xcopy it onto the hard disk, i would recommend borrowing a friends computer or taking your computer to their house, and setting your drive up as a slave on their system, from there copy over all your important files and programs etc. as you may need to reinstall windows later if nothing works
