Program Needs Local Admin Rights

Hello again!

Recently I have installed a game on the computer as an administrator. When we try to start the application on a limited account an error message appears saying I must be a local administrator in order to run this program.

I've done some google searches and it seems the only solution is to access the application as an administrator. Is there anyway to set it up so anytime this program is opened it is automatically run as adminstrator ?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Program Needs Local Admin Rights

I don't know whether there is an answer to your question but, as an alternative suggestion / workaround, you may want to try giving the limited user account administrative security privileges to the game's installation folder in Windows Explorer and also the section within HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry (you can edit registry permissions using REGEDT32 but always take a backup first).

Hope that helps

Re: Program Needs Local Admin Rights

Is there a FAQ or anything in the page on how to do something like this? If not I can do a couple google searches and be on my way :-)

Re: Program Needs Local Admin Rights

OK so I gave permissions through regedit32 and im trying to figure out what you mean by giving permissions through windows explorer? Thanks.

EDIT:

I think I gave permissions correctly, but I'm not sure exactly if it worked. The limited user account can access the installation folder through windows explorer but when I try to access the .exe folder it still says I need local admin to use this program. Do I have to give access to the game.dll or something?

Thanks

The registry key I used was HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\AppP aths\tumblebugs.exe

Re: Program Needs Local Admin Rights

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer and browse to the installation folder. Right-click the main installation folder and select Properties from the menu. Do you see a Security tab?

If you do, set the permissions for the limited user account to have administrative access to that folder (i.e. "Full control"). Then click the Advanced button and set the option to replace those permissions on all child entries, i.e. all files and sub-folders within the folder that you are changing.

If you do not see the Security tab, go to the View menu and select Folder Options. Turn off 'Simple File Sharing', click OK and then repeat the above steps.

Let us know if that helps

Re: Program Needs Local Admin Rights

Have a look under "C:\Program Files\Common Files" and see if there is also a folder in there for the application, which might need the permissions updating as well.
