Programs are trying to install themselves

Hi all,

I'm trying to help my Dad sort out his computer... At the moment, whenever you load up Windows XP, a program seems to try to install itself... Anyway, I thought there was a problem with this programme, so I uninstalled it...

The next time I booted the computer up, the same thing happened with another programme..

Is this a virus of some sort? any ideas on how to remove it...

He is running loads of virus software... AdAware, Spy Bot, Norton, Spyware Doctor etc... nothing detects anything...

Thanks in advance

Nate

Re: Programs are trying to install themselves

Hi badbullets...

Unfortunately no cd in drive... It just seems to pick on one programe, then, when you uninstall that one, moves on to the next... The gardening programme was purchased from a shop... so no worries about it being dodgy...

Already running Kaspersky.... along with all the other antivirus software...

anymore ideas??? I so dont want to reinstall XP for him as it will take days

Nate

Re: Programs are trying to install themselves

Try clearing out msconfig |Startup. Get there from start Run...

See if that makes a difference. If so go back and selectively reset the items to try and locate the problem. You will want to restart your Anti Virus.

If that doesn't help try the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool.
