Question <windows root>\system32\hal.dll problem

Hi all my friend was trying to reinstalled windows xp to his dell computer but could not continue to do so because the computer said "Windows could not start because <windows root>\system32\hal.dll needs to be reinstalled." I dont know what to do, can someone give any advice? He cant even get into the windows screen. Thanks all.

He has a Dell 2350 computer and only has the drivers cd and windows xp cd's, he tried putting the cds in the computer but it did nothing to solve the problem. Thanks everyone.

Hi thanks again for your help, I did what the instructions said on dell but "modified" it a little bit since his computer was built before 2004. We can go into Windows now but there is a slight problem... The Resolution on the computer will not alow us to get passed 640x480 with 4 bit! Im going to do some research to see what I can do but do you suggest something? Thanks

Download the drivers (video) for the specific Dell model.

If it is an independent graphics card then get the drivers from that manufacturer.
