Computer won't boot

Hello all..my problem is I was trying to help someone & the game they had me download killed my computer.

After I had ran the installer I got an error about something not being able to be applied or whatever. Anyways.. after it got done with whatever I x'd it out & nothing happened. After that I started getting error message pop-ups on my dock saying that something about some file path being broken.. I can't remember it word-for-word since soon after I shut down my computer.

All I remember was it has a $ sign in the file path & it was saying something was corrupted.

SO... I shut down my computer, try to reboot & it wouldn't boot up. The error message pop-ups in my dock said something about running Dskchk (disk check?) & I remember that it was some blue screen that popped up sometimes & it fixed certain errors.

Well, my questions are:

Can I still run Disk Check?
if so... How can I run Disk Check?
Is there any fix at all?
Will I have to re-install the operating system?
Is there something I can do in the SETUP screen to help it at all?

Thanks a ton!

By the way, I run on Windows XP.

Re: Computer won't boot

I'm not sure I have that CD. I'm currently downloading Hiren's bootCD. I'll put that on a disk and run it on my computer, would it work the same way?

Re: Computer won't boot

From what I see that Boot CD does not offer the Microsoft Recovery Console.

You can get there with the 6 floppy setup as seen here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994

It would be best to find your original CD however as the chance of having to reinstall XP is very high.
