Audio difficulties from Cassette to CD

Im converting some old recordings of my family singing from cassettes, 8tracks, & borrowed CD's that need talking edited out but Ive encountered a problem with the audio. The sound records to the computer, but Ive lost the ability to hear what Im recording via headphones or speakers. All I get when I have the cassette player volume turned to its highest level is a faint whisper of what Im recording. Problem with that is that the volume is so high all Im recording is a distorted mass of noise. All other applications for sound E.G windows media, flash player, sounds at startup and loggoff etc. work just fine. Ive triple checked my settings to make sure all my mute settings are unchecked. Also my connecting cords are working properly.

When I go into start>my computer> Local disc c> The system volume information comes up with a message that it is inaccessable and access is denied. I dont know if this affects anything or not. Oh Im using free mp3 recorder and verified that Im pulling audio from the proper source (in this case microphone. Inline worth with this when pulling sound directly from the internet) so Im really at a loss. Id used this same application previously without any problem which tells me Ive forgotten to do something between then and now to hear what Im recording. Id considered uninstalling and reinstalling the mp3 recorder but I havent yet.

Im puzzled as to what Ive done to cause this but I really hope someone call give me some insite to correct this. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Rick

Re: Audio difficulties from Cassette to CD

on the recording software, is there a "monitor" option? if you are recording via line-in, this may need to be checked

alternativly, you could get a splitter which plugs into your casette, you can then plug headphones AND the lead to connect to the pc in at once...

do youuse RCA leads or a 3.5mm plug-pluc lead to connect the casette to your pc?

Re: Audio difficulties from Cassette to CD

Hi Mike. No, on this bit of freeware there isnt a monitor option. Now interestingly I went in to run a test on my soundcard Via the speech and audio options in control panel and found that while the test is running I can hear what Im recodring just fine. Maybe it is due to the hangup with service pack 2. Hey, I hadnt thought of running a splitter to the cassette unit, I bet that will work just as well. I really appreciate the suggestion and you taking time to reply. Many thanks.

Re: Audio difficulties from Cassette to CD

The splitter may actually be BETTER because there will be no delay at all

Sometimes, when recording through line-in and listening, there is a few second delay

These splitters sell in our asda for £0.20!! Other places such as maplins sell them for £2-3.

If you still want to listen through your pc speakers without the splitter, let me know and i will have a look and see what i can come up with!
