Jephree,

got online after MSCONFIG - downloaded package for MSICUU2 for the Installer Cleanup, but still got Error 1500

Now back out of Diagnostic with boxes rechecked.

Didnt see any reference to Google Earth anywhere.

Did your suggestion again and this time switched off Windows Installer in System tab on msconfig but that just meant that the installer doesnt load at all.

Still have the 1500 error back afterwards.

sigh ........

XP Home or Pro?

Do you knowingly have another administrator account?

If not do you know if you are using the "built-in" administrator account?

Hey Jephree,

I found an old version of Registry Mechanic in my backups.

This installed ok - done a complete System Scan and fixed errors and it seems to have cured the problem.

either that or something else has changed when I did your msconfig suggestion, only got 1 MSIEXEC.exe process running now, which I believe is as it should be.

many many thanks for your assistance

finally I can go to bed - its 1am here in UK

John
