Angry BSOD - No Idea Why

Hello everyone, i made a thread a few months ago about some BSODs i get. Im still having those problems, i just decided id try and do something about it now.

Well ive attached 2 text files from debugwiz. Usually i get the blue screen sometime while gaming or just randomly. Im pretty sure my temps are fine...not sure what stress test would be best to run if i should....or not.

But i was thinking it could be my power supply. Im pretty sure it's a Thamestar 470W PSU (it cost me 15$...). So ive heard a PSU can cause all sorts of odd things to happen. Let me know if you think it's the PSU aswell.

I think the guy who helped me before was Jephree, he was pretty friendly, not sure if he's still around here.

Re: BSOD - No Idea Why

I am still here although been lost in TF2 lately.

First dump hardware playing HL2.

Second more ???

Do you have the latest updates from Steam and drivers from ATI?

If you can reproduce the failures please post more dumps. They are often more comprehensible in multiple numbers.

Just BTW cheap PSU's are notorious for many problems. I would define a cheap PSU as less than $50.

Re: BSOD - No Idea Why

TF2 is pretty addicting About to go play some more, see if i can get some more blue screens

ATI Drivers i think may be 1 or 2 behind, not sure, ill update those now. Usually i dont update mine too often because i have such an old card (9600XT). Steam is updated fully. And i think TF2 and all other VALVe games register as HL2.exe. I was playing TF2

As for a PSU, i was thinking of this Corsair HX Series CMPSU-520HX. It may be a bit overkill, but if you could find anything even a bit cheaper that would be fine. Wanted to buy it in case i ever decide to build a new rig i can use it.

Re: BSOD - No Idea Why

From that same distributer there are a few Enermax models for a similar price:

http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...=20&numPages=5

I recommend Enermax. Do you have a full tower case or mid-tower or Micro?

Just to verify the size fit of the PSU.

Your HL2.exe also referenced ks.sys:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812035

Anyway post more dumps if you get them. Remember TF2 is a beta product. I've had a few freeze ups and some problems connecting to servers "tripping" my modem.

Going back now to Pyro some folks.

Re: BSOD - No Idea Why

Most ATX PSU's will fit both mid and full towers.

The exception would be the 850 > 1000 Watt range as they are a bit larger in physical size.

Yeah I've tried most classes and my best is a suicidal Pyro. Spin and burn!

This is the first multi player I've ever tried and my hand/eye is not too quick but igniting Spys is fun to do.

Thinking about it now, do you think a 380W Antec or 430W Thermaltake would be a better idea? Im really thinking about the 430W Thermaltake because it's only 40$. (Just so you know the main reason i want to get this problem fixed is for the Orange Box released Wednesday )

Ahh and just so you know, the PSU doesnt have to power a beast it's only a:

Athlon 64 3000 (@2ghz)
9600XT
1GB DDR400
1 SATA HDD
1 DVD Drive

I was only thinking of getting a higher end PSU to help with a future build, like next year...but i could have other things in mind by then.

Aha you musta liked the last update or the one before it that increased the damage for close range . Seen here

Btw...i dont want to derail the thread too much, but what's your Steam ID thing, ill add you to play some TF2. Mine is: Sarta123 (that is if you want to play)

Re: BSOD - No Idea Why

That Thermaltake looks decent.

I added you as a friend. Not sure how that works but we'll see.

Alright, i think that the only option (that i can see) i have left is to buy a PSU. So i think im going to try and go out and buy that Thermaltake.

Dont know how the friends list works? It's easy...
