I'm accused by MS of being a counterfeiter....
Good evening !
I purchased my S/H Dell computer from a reputable company (ITC) in January 07 complete with documents etc such as an invoice and also proof that the computer came complete with XP sp2 pro installed. An intact sticker is also still in place and undamaged on top of the machine.
I have had various small problem with it [I think XP just may be somewhat to blame for this] but around two weeks ago when I switched on it just would not open up. I can't remember everything about the event but I well recall that the 'Administrator' was restricting me ! I admit to panic ! I obtained a couple of discs from friends more knowledgeable about computers than I am. One was an XP disc and the other a concoction intended to get past the pesky administrator.
I tried the 'unknown' first and it did nothing towards getting the PC going again so I put the XP disc on and when it asked for the 'numbers' without a thought [panic, remember] I put in the code from the borrowed disc ! Of course, it was rejected........so I then put in the code from the label ! That achieved nothing so I took it to a repair shop. They got it working but I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY MIGHT HAVE DONE ! Understandably, MS are suspicious and keep opening up windows warning me that I have counterfeit software.
I've gone thro' the MS VERIFICATION procedure but they reject whatever I can say on their 'forms'. There is nowhere that they have available for me to tell them what happened or to present my paperwork. I think that they ought to be willing for me to fax all of my paperwork to them to check out. I feel that it may be apparent to them that I might just be telling the truth.
From what I present here does anyone know of a name, a phone number or email that they know is 'good' that I could use to get in touch with someone at MS/UK [or wherever] and/or do you think that I stand a chance ? At the very least, I much resent paying out £95 to them for a disc !
Thanks for reading.
