Trobles with XP MCE

Hi guys I have a copy of XP Media Center that I bought last november and installed in on my new computer that I built it was running awsome and the computer was fast. I was using microsofts outlook the one that comes with the office suite so I removed the outlook that came with my OS. Then this summer I formated my computer and now my outlook is gone and I can't even do a repair to get it back and also my Media center does not work when I click it I just get a blank screen. I know if you format a harddrive it does not erase the drive it just sets it to be over writed so, do you guys think it might me that some of the stuff on my drive is still telling outlook not to come back or is it that my HD is damaged. I am a comuter technician and I can't even figure out what is going on here and I know there are alot of smart people here that can help me.
thanks

Re: Trobles with XP MCE

In general XP Media Center is not a retail operating system so whatever CD you have might be very dependent on a particular manufacturer and a specific model of computer.

Office would not be part of the operating system but a separate installation disk unless the manufacturer bundled both on their disk.

It is not a good idea to delete such things as Outlook Express as along with IE they share files with the integral parts of XP itself.

What was the source of this CD and was it intended for this particular computer?

Re: Trobles with XP MCE

I see this:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...5&sku=M17-7508

Again this is XP MCE. An OEM disk.

First off Office is a separate program so it is not coming from this disk.

You need to reload your Office software for Office.

As to your reinstall of XP MCE are you saying that certain functions (Media Center) are not functioning?

I also note that it is a 2 CD set. Did you run both CD's?

...............

Re: Trobles with XP MCE

Did you run a Clean Install of XP MCE including formatting and you still cannot open OE or the Media Center?

Are these programs installed but will not open? Or did they not install?

If installed what happens when you try to open them? Any error message?

Besides this does everything else work OK?

Also just curious: do you know what is on the second CD? In general XP fits one CD. Perhaps the is the Media Center addition?
