Hp Usb 2.0/firewire Combo Hub

I have 1 firewire port but unfortunately one of my children broke it accidently by inserting wrong way round the connection from the camera to the pc.

Only way round this problem for me was to buy an external hub. Looked round the net & found what I thought was ideal. I bought 'HP USB 2.0/FireWire Combo Hub'. Hmmmmm.

Followed instructions (very easy).....
.................................................. .........................................
Convenient 2-in-1 design
Plug the hub into your pc & get 4 usb & 2 firewire ports
Connect high speed usb 2.0 & firewire peripherals with one device
Increase desktop space with one versatile hub

Convenient Set Up
No need to open your pc
Simply plug your hub into any available usb & firewire port on your pc
No driver installation needed for WinXP

Hi-Speed USB 2.0
USB 2.0 supports data transfer speeds up to 480Mbps which is up to 40 times faster than USB 1.1
Ideal for large date transfer from video cameras, scanners, external hard drives.

Backwards compatible with USB 1.1 devices

Firewire/1394
Easily connect your DV camcorders to your pc
Supports data transfer up to 400 Mbps

Easy to Use
LED indicators
Front & Side loading of usb/firewire peripherals
Included AC adapter provides sufficient power for high power consumption devices such as printers, digi cameras, scanners etc.
...............................................

Please can you help me... Once I set it up my pc started to go wrong.

It opened as usual, desktop appeared & before I could check my emails the pc went off, then came on again... kept doing this over & over.

I then unplugged the combo hub and everything went back to normal again.

Is there something I did wrong or can you give me any advice.

I'm desperate for this to work as I am filming 3 performances over 3 nights & then making DVDs to sell to raise funds for the children in my daughter's dance school. I do this every summer & Christmas to do my bit for the school.

Thanks for anything you can come up with

Eileen xxx

Re: Hp Usb 2.0/firewire Combo Hub

First off if it did work you have the same problem.

As I read your info you need to plug in both USB and Firewire.

The hub just adds an extra port but you need the Firewire port on the motherboard:

In other words you need both an up stream and downstream for both USB and firewire.

You can buy an internal PCI firewire card for about $20 US.

For example:
