Lite-On CD_RW burner issues/W XP Pro/SP2

Lite-On burner/mod # LTR 40125S/ latest firmware upgrade/Dell Dimension 5100 system:

Burner writes a CD-RW and then doesn't recognize contents. Same with CD-Rs. The same disks inserted in the CD-ROM drive read just fine. I've downloaded and installed the latest firmware upgrade from Lite-On web site, but still doesn't work. Writes but does not show contents.

Burning software: Roxio Media Creator 7.5 with latest upgrades.

After running Roxio Scan Disk, it wants to save files to a different folder and format disk. I selected "no" and removed disk. Inserted disk in the CD-ROM and it reads perfectly???

I've removed Roxio and re-installed. Same problem. I've removed drive using "uninstall" and re-booted to allow system to "find" drive. Drive is listed with the proper drive letter and will work just fine for a few minutes, then, although the drive is listed properly, it no longer displays disk contents????

Re: Lite-On CD_RW burner issues/W XP Pro/SP2

Some things to try:

If you feel comfortable editing the registry, here are some steps:

Click the Start button, click Run. In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.
Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM.
Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Control.
Click the plus sign (+) next to Class.
Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

Once here click File in the upper left corner and choose: Export (this key)
Export to your Documents as a backup. If needed you can go back to this file and Import it back.

Then:

On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters.
Click Edit on the menu bar.
Click Delete, and then click OK.
On the right-hand side of the window, click LowerFilters.
Click Edit on the menu bar.
Click Delete, and then click OK.
Click File, and then click Exit. Restart the computer normally

Also check UDMA/PIO settings under your IDE channel in the Device Manager.

If set to DMA try changing to PIO.
