Problem: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM popup

Everytime I boot up and when I start up any programs the below shown error messages come up. Sometimes only once and sometime three or four times before I can finally cancel it out. This has been going on a long time and I have no idea what it is coming from so I decided to ask if somebody could help me get rid of this problem.

I have in the past on several different occasions searched on the Internet and tried several different things suggested but nothing so far seems to stop these messages from popping up.

Any help stopping these messages from popping up would be greatly apprreciated.

You could try this tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Usually the error specifies a program which can then be removed with the above tool.

Do you have the latest Windows Updates?

Re: Problem: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM popup

Did you try editing msconfig | startup?

This wouldn't explain when you open programs though.

Do you remember when this started? Do you remember installing anything that coincided with it when it first started?

Do you have the latest Windows Updates?

Have you run virus scans etc.?

Re: Problem: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM popup

It has been going on long enough ago that I don't remember anymore about installing anything that might have caused the problem. I'm 76 years old and am lucky to remember to get up in the mornings...haha...J/K well not about being 76 though. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas anymore.

I have AVG running active on my computer. I run SpySweeper active and scan with it regularly, used to be everyday but maybe about once a week now. I also scan with Counterspy about once a week. COMODO antimalware is also active. SpywareBlaster is running too. I sometimes do online virus scans too so I don't think I have any Virus. But what do I know??

I usually update Windows but after the fact a week or two...

One thing I do know is I am getting darn tired of these popups...haha... And wish I could get rid of them...

Thanks for any help offered.

Re: Problem: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM popup

Check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.

Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors or Information entries that coincide with your problem. Details here:

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Look for Errors or Information that might coincide with the time of a popup.

You can "force" a popup and note the time then go back to the Event Viewer and see if any event was recorded.

The main thing we are looking for is an application ID that spurs these events.

Re: Problem: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM popup

I forced the popup but in Event Viewer I got no errors. Below is a picture of the properties of both happenings at the time I forced the popups. I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Problem: The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM popup

It is not uncommon for some errors to appear.

You may note the recurrence of the same error every time you boot for example which indicates that some expected action did not happen.

These errors if repeated are generally benign or else you have some faulty hardware or driver.

Anyway your Information was simply that Windows was started.

I would suggest running Check Disk.

Go to start then Run... and type cmd

Then type: chkdsk /f (note the space between k and /)

You will be told the Volume is in use. Do you want to run chkdsk on next boot? Y or N?

Type: Y and then reboot the computer.

This will check your hard drive for any errors and fix them.
