Hello everyone, I am new here I have a problem with my Windows XP starting up. I am getting an error message svchost.exe - application error
0x775007d0 ref memory at 0x0000000a. What is this and how can I get it to go away please? Bearing in mind I am a 56 year old woman with a limited pc knowledge - VERY limited ! So any instructiuons would have to be step by step - practically drawing a picture .
Go ..Start......Settings........Control Panel ....System... go to automatic updates and turn off automatic updates
Reboot your computer
Go back and turn on automatic updates

Thank you for your help Brain Damage, have done what you ssid, and seemed to be ok. Have logged on today and had a myriad of error messages - think the gremlins have taken over my pc!
1st error message: The instruction at 0x76a94819 referenced memory at 0x6edae27c the memory could not be written.
2nd error message: the instruction at 0x7628560f ref memory at 0x7628560f the memory could not be read
3rd error message: system shutdown this system is shutting down. shutdown initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. Windows must nw restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexcpectedly. Have had this happen twice in succession!
4th error message: 0x76a8667c ref mem0ry at 0x000e7000 memory could not be read.
I feel as though my pc has died on me! Sending this from my laptop. The pc has just come up again - without any error messages this time!
Does any of this lot make sense to you? I would be eternally grateful to you for any help you can give me.

I am using Kaspersky.. I had a problem with it over a week ago, and contacted them at the time. There has been numerous emails between us since then, and they got me to run hi-jack this and run a system thingy but they siad that all checks out ok. They got me to deinstall kaspersky and then reinstall it. Yesterday I had another error message saying kaspersky had failed to run at startup, and I always send these report to them - but I know those nreports go to Russia - a great help !!!!

your log has been checked and nothing realy comes up.
is your computer all up to date with all updates from Microsoft?
