WinXP..MISSING COLOR SELECTIONS

I am unable to access / use FONT COLORS, ICON COLORS and in some cases the access buttons in come web pages.
This occurs in programs like GOOGLE MAIL. Its like I am missing something in Windows setup.
Also, can not figure out how to change the primary page colors ....again....WinXP.
I have surched, asked, etc....and usually am referred to Tools, Internet Options, then maybe a specific box. Has ANYONE ever written any definition, or plain english explanations for the confusing language used in Internet Options?
Guess I am getting too old to keep up with this stuff

Re: WinXP..MISSING COLOR SELECTIONS

Internet Options certainly have a labyrinthine nature.

Here is just one possibility:

See if it applies to your situation.

Dear jephree,

Thanks for your help & input. I followed your instructions but had some bad viruses attack, so had to restore system.
So still have problem, and now CAN'T ACCESS INTERNET OPTIONS. Everytime I click on it a window quickly appears, then disappears....... like a ghost window.
I have dumped IE7 & gone back to IE6 caus IS7 was constanly causing messes.
Thanks again.
Especially thanks since I am disabled & just spent 3 months in Hospitals (3)... On my way back thanks to some great MD's.......and it is SO REFRESHING to get your people's help.....
Thanks....deeply

Re: WinXP..MISSING COLOR SELECTIONS

Try going to start > Run... and type or paste:

inetcpl.cpl

Does that work?

Also how did you restore the system? A Repair Install? Or...?

Unhappy Re: WinXP..MISSING COLOR SELECTIONS

I used the System Restore located in the Control Panel of WinXP.....in my "HP" Computer .

..Tried "inetcpl.cpl" in "run". Nothing happened. Again, same thing.disappeared.

Re: WinXP..MISSING COLOR SELECTIONS

What is the exact HP model?

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

In most cases their restore functions are similar.

Your symptoms are very indicative of a virus attack (or its aftereffects).

You might be best off running a complete recovery after backing up your data etc.

Just for example is this what you did already:

Re: WinXP..MISSING COLOR SELECTIONS

Yes, That is basically what I used. I guess the full restore is best.
Any quick way to back-up...? Or do I have to do each area. (Never had to before...always had a complete crash..years ago)

Thanks again

Re: WinXP..MISSING COLOR SELECTIONS

Depending on your hardware you can either:

Burn files to DVD/CD

Copy to a flash drive or USB drive

Copy to a second internal hard drive (disconnect before restoring)

You can try the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.php

After the Destructive Recovery you will need to reinstall all Windows Updates and Service Packs as well as any programs that were not originally installed by HP.
