Question Newly Installed Comodo

I have dumped ZA and installed Comodo. What a difference so far as setting up is concerned! Did not have to do much, particularly with my intranet. With ZA I had to tell it the IP range to accept. Comodo just did it.

But I can't access the net from the slave laptop.

The laptop is running Vista and the PC (with access to the net) is running XP.

Problem is the laptop cannot access the net.

That may be because Comodo won't allow it?

That may be because it is set up for dial up and I have recently had installed (wireless) broadband?

Simple words and phrases, please. I'm only at the intermediate stage.

Thanks. Roscoe.

It shouldn't matter. Your laptop should pickup a signal.
Is it built-in network adapter, or wireless plug-in network card?

Re: Newly Installed Comodo

Thank you, Broni.

It is a built-in network card. I just plug in the side. The network works well. And when it was on dial up it worked well. Any ideas?

Re: Newly Installed Comodo

Are the card lights on?
You should have connection icon on your laptop screen. What does it say?
Try to connect in Safe Mode.
Just to start with...

Re: Newly Installed Comodo

Thank you for your reply, Broni.

Yes, the lights are on, both computers.

When I put my mouse over the icon, it says "Currently connected to network, Access: local only" - and the main PC is online.

Certainly I have no problem with the network between the two, just problems with the laptop accessing the net.

When I look at the Network Sharing Centre it shows:

Laptop ----------------- Network -------x--------- Internet

which is obviously saying that it is not connected to the internet.

When I clicked to diagnose it said, "There may be a problem with your DNS configuration. Windows failed to find the well known host "www.microsoft.com" using DNS. The server may be down."

Thinking that it may be the COMODO firewall, I turned it off, but the same result.

I'm assuming that something needs changing on the PC to allow the laptop access. Perhaps you know what that is?

Your help is appreciated.

Even, if you turned it off, some processes may be still running. The only way to make sure, is to try from Safe Mode.

When you return to Normal Mode, go Start>Run, and type in:
cmd
Click OK.
In command window, type in:
ping www.google.com
Hit Enter, and post what it says.

After that, type in:
ipconfig /all
Hit Enter.
Post back results.

Execute same ipconfig /all command on working computer, and compare results.
