sound problems

Firstly thankyou for letting me join this forum.

i have an issue with a computer system that i had built a couple of years ago, i have very quite sound from the computerit is so quiet it is hardly audible, i have put in an audio cd and get the following message

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

the sound details are as follows

Just a few questions, have you made any changes recently? The quiet sound you mentioned just started recently or was it there all along?

anyways, you may wish to try and reinstall the drivers from here and see if it works.
