XP won't load properly...
Hi all, new member here, and of course I have a problem. I'll do my best to explain what is going on, what I've tried, and any questions I have:
My PC froze up the other day while I was gaming. The sound continued to run, but the screen froze, and got these series of 4 dashed lines, running vertically every centimeter or so down the screen. After trying all other options, I was forced to do a hard shutdown. (holding power until off).
Now, when I boot up, the screen still has the lines on it at the boot screen, and will not load Windows XP normally. It will start the load, but stop after about 10 secs. Then the monitor goes black, says "Monitor going to sleep, No input signal"
I can run it in safe mode, I've tried system restore same thing. I also did a PC recovery, and that seems to allow it to run in a very low resolution and graphics mode (640x 480, 4-bit colors). If I try to change it, the screen goes blank, with the same message. "No input signal,..."
I have a HP Pavillion, roughly 2.5 yrs old, with a GeForce 6600GT graphics card loaded. Has the latest drivers installed. Never had any issues before the other day. Is it possible that the card has been fried? I opened the unit up, took out the card, dusted it with air, seems to be okay, fan spins, etc...
Any help is sooo appreciated. Thanks, Mike
