I reinstalled windows xp on my sister-in-laws computer at my home. It was connected to a router and everything went well. I was able to connect to Internet and downloaded all the windows updates.
She took her computer home and connected it to her cable modem, no router, and It will not connect to the Internet via IE.
She is on the same cable company as me and it appears that the computer is on the net because the computer thing by the clock shows that it is connected.
When I open IE it displays a page that it not connected. Is IE not working or how can I check if her computer is connected to the net?
Everything worked fine at my house and all she did was take it home and plug her stuff in.
This is a suggestion. During firing up the computer go into the CMOS. In the CMOS there should/may be information on the state of the 'ONCHIP LAN CONTROLLER,' and the 'ONBOARD LAN CONTROLLER,' If they are both in the 'disabled,' state then 'enable' them.
