Unhappy Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close

I've searched for half an hour and couldn't find this question answered.

I run on Windows XP Professional.

I edit videos for a living and recently, when I try to play, move, copy, edit, rename etc. specific videos, i get an error message:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem

Send Don't Send"

The video will still play etc. but if i click "Send/Don't Send" everything on my screen goes blank, then the start-up box, etc. will appear but anything I was working on doesn't.

If I continue working despite the pop-up, I can play the file, but I can not save any work I do on it.

Also, if I click send, it will open a web page in the Microsoft Support website that tells me Microsoft doesn't know what the problem is...

Microsoft Windows Error Reporting

This doesn't happen with other files, or even all video files. It happens to the same video files each time, and to every video file in the folder.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close

I'm not too sure about my specs...it's a custom made for me by a friend who is very computer savvy.

The computer is not overheating, though.

But it happens only on the same files, over and over. Other programs, length of time computer was on, and type of video file have no difference.

How do you know?

All video files, or particular video files?
To find your specs...
Download, and install Everest: |MG| EVEREST Free Edition 2.20
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI

Re: Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close

I know it isn't overheating because it hasn't shut down, the fans are running, and it is in a room that is kept at 66 degrees...if it overheats in that, it has problems.

And as for the files, lets say I have Folder 1, 2, and 3. Each has 2 different video files.
The error only occurs in the video files in Folder 1. Even if moved to Folder 2, or 3, the same files ahve the same problem.

Also if the problem files from Folder 1 are moved to Folder 2, the files in Folder 2 originally do not develop the same error.

I also received an error message opening Everest, listed below with the report.

"This computer seems to have a nVIDIA "C51" motherboard chipset.
The current version of EVEREST you are running does not fully support your system.

To get improved and fixed support for your system, use the EVEREST support wizard to submit the Hardware report of your system to Lavalys (everest-home@lavalys.com)

The submitted information would enable us to implement a full support for your system in the next release of EVEREST.

Do you wish to create a Hardware report now and submit it?

Yes No"

I clicked No, by the way.

This is what I got...

Room temp has only marginal impact on your computer internal temps.
Get SpeedFan: Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer, and post your computer temps.

Re: Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close

It has a long list of temperatures

Temp. 1 - 127 C
Temp. 2 - 46 C
Temp. 3 - 24C

Temp. - 1C
HD0 - 34C
HD1 - 33C
Temp. 1 - 40 C
Core - 34-37C(this one is changing) (edit: it is now a constant 35C)

Thank you by the way for helping so much.

Any more ideas?

Re: Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close

Specs look fine, temps look fine...
Does the error occur when you try to open troublesome file, or when you start working on it?
Also, get CodecInstaller: CodecInstaller - audio and video codecs analysis tool. Install common codecs., and play around with it. It'll tell you, if you have any codecs missing, if there is something wrong with any codec, etc.

Re: Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close

The error occurs when I open the video file and also when working on it. The moment I click on it, the warning message pops up.

Also the codecs installer told me my codecs are fine, which is probably the truth. I have been using the same computer for almost two years, and I update any codecs I can.

The video will still play perfectly fine, even after the message pops up (if I don't click Send/Don't Send and let it move to the background). But if I edit the video at all, I can not save it.
