Hello All,

After a reinstall of Windows XP on my (old) lap top I've ended up without any sound and wondered if anybody could help me locate the drivers?? I've been struggling for days now and getting no where so I thought it was high time to call in the experts!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
M

Re: Desperately seeking a good samaritan

Was thinking the same thing, but some laptop manufacturers, especially the older models, can be picking about their onboard sound drivers. In some cases, generic drivers won't even be detected.

Re: Desperately seeking a good samaritan

Hi thanks for the fast response.

As for the make and model I'm really not sure ...The laptop was a bespoke spec put together by Evesham (before they went bust) so don't have a model number as such. Is there any other way I can get the information that you need?

Re: Desperately seeking a good samaritan

Did you try the link in Majin's post? Check to see if those drivers do the trick or not. Hopefully they'll solve your problem. I checked Evesham's site and it looks like they're still in business. I couldn't find any software downloads though.

Re: Desperately seeking a good samaritan

Hi yes I gave those drivers ago but unfortunately nothing but a "thunderous silence" coming through the speakers. I looked into the "add Hardware" to see if it would cast any light and listed by the installed hardware by the Realtek AC97 Audio Via (R) Audio Controller there is a yellow exclamation mark. When I click through I get a message saying "This device can not be started (Code 10)"

Any of this sound familiar?

Yes looks like Evesham are back in business I'll try giving them a call tomorrow to see if they have any records on the make and model.

However is it possible that the sound card is integrated into the motherboard? Miatac 5a? Might this hold the key?

Re: Desperately seeking a good samaritan

Yes, onboard or integrated sound means the audio chip that is built into the motherboard. I looked into Mitac 5A and found nothing. I'm still amazed Belarc hasn't displayed your motherboard information. Is there a missing field in your overview page perhaps?

Re: Desperately seeking a good samaritan

Ran the Belarc again and no other info is available in the profile ... must be having an identity crisis!

Does this mean my only options are to:
1) To open up the laptop
2) Find out info from Evesham???

Re: Desperately seeking a good samaritan

Are there any manufacturer/vendor stickers on the bottom of the laptop?
