Digital Camera problems with XP

Cannot transfer pictures from my Kodak camera to my computer. The camera appears in Device Manager O.K. but when I try to "get pictures", I either get a message saying computer cannot detect camera etc, or sometimes I get a mes sage saying camera is in use and to try again later. Noticed I also have several "unknown devices" listed in Device Manager, wonder if these refer to my frequent attempts to install camera. Any help will be much appreciated
