Computer Won't Boot

My computer won't boot - right before the part were it supposed to show the Windows logo it goes to a blank screen.

The only beep I get is the all clear beep, I can still access the bios.

This started happening after I turned off my computer a few days ago.

Any ideas?
-Wikety

It sounds as if it's not "finding" the hard disk, or, the boot files on the hard disk.

Is the hard disk listed correctly in the POST screen? (POST - Power On Self Test)

Can you boot the machine with a bootable CD (ie; XP CD if you have one)?

There's a possibility that the CMOS battery may have died, and lost the hard disk parameters. However, if the hard disk was set up with default parameters (what the machine found/recognized and not a "hard entered" parameters setup) the machine will usually find the disk once power is applied.

This person is trying to save/salvage the machine. By performing what you suggest above, all data on the hard disk will be lost.

If you're trying to help some one with suggestions, please explain the ramifications of such suggestions.

Thumbs up Re: Computer Won't Boot

Hi Dan,

You are right! I have forgotten to write one more line the backup the data is necessary before doing anything to the HDD especially the repartition that certainly will lost all the data.

Sorry I guessed everyone knew about the repartition will lost the data, I will add the above data backup suggestion in the future.

Thanks again for your quick correction.
Have a nice day.

Re: Computer Won't Boot

Thanks for everyones help,

I decided to plug in a new hard drive, and booting from that one.

I switched them back, and left the second hard drive still in the machine. (Who doesnt need extra room?)

Computer works now

Thankyou!!
