problem connecting to internet

i am not sure whether this is the right place for this thread because i am not sure where the problem is.
i am not able to connect to the internet through the dial up modem. whenever i try to connect the net my computer hangs. i don't know whether the problem is with the modem or not. when i see in the list of installed hardware devices then it shows the modem is working properly.
i also tried uninstalling and the reinstalling the modem driver but it still didn't work.
i am using windows XP 2007.

Hi asdf,

Siimple idea......have you unplugged the modem, waiting for 20 seconds and plugged it back in again. Reboot and try your internet connection again.

Also, clean out your temporary internet folder by running one of your cleanup utilities.
