blocking website from children

Hello, I know how to block website using the host file but, my children are finding ways to get into site I supposed to be block. For example, myspace, all they do is open a web site other then "myspace.com" when they see all the listing that the browser brings up and then from any of those site they can open and sign in. Same for AIM.com that I try to block because they are chatting with strangers that I don't know. Any help here?

since we are talking about blocking websites....I was wondering is there a way around to access a website if you get banned from it? My friend has blocked me from our clan website.

Yes if you are blocked by your IP address then you can use an online proxy.

If you have firefox; https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3145
I'd suggest downloading this addon... where you can enter sites to block as you please; make sure your kids don't see you do it; otherwise it's easy to figure out for yourself.
If you don't have firefox, I can't help.

There's the obvious problem of proxies; which is a big problem if they know of them.
You could attempt to block some proxies too; but that would no doubt take you days and you still wouldn't get them all.

Re: blocking website from children

I think your best option is investing in a program such as Symantec web security, this is used in quite a few schools to stop children getting on these kind of sites, this program will also block proxies on selected user accounts

Re: blocking website from children

I suggest using OpenDNS and blocking it via DNS sever. You can block proxy sites and other category sites. You can also manually add sites to block or allow.

Best of all its free. OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet
