Re: monitor doesn't turn on after boot

This may sound silly but,

Is the monitor plugged into an electrical outlet ??

Is the monitor turned on ??

Have you checked your cables ???

Did the monitor work before ??

Have you made any hardware changes ??

Re: monitor doesn't turn on after boot

basically...yes to all of the above. The thing is, i checked out the motherboard, and it looks okay, as far as the power getting to it is concerned, and the diagnosis lights on the back of the computer flash D through A on boot. The bad thing is, the computer just has a weird habit of not telling the monitor to turn on, meaning the light on the monitor stays amber colored. Im not sure if it has anything to do with the BIOS or what, but I'm completely stumped.

Re: monitor doesn't turn on after boot

Have you tried using another monitor ?? OR tried your monitor on another pc ??
(If possible borrow one from a friend)

If you have the same problem with another monitor or you monitor works on another pc, it could be your video card.

Re: monitor doesn't turn on after boot

Just for info, from what I have read on Dell Dimension 3000, they only have integrated motherboard intel graphics and there is no provision for installing a Video card on motherboard. Another thing you might think about, is my crt moniter which is ibm and my desktop is ibm, well the moniter came with a cd to load the driver for the crt if windows, which I don't use, doesn't provide it. Maybe when you can get a screen up. check on moniter in Device manager and check on properties.

Or borrow a linux live cd from someone and see what you can see.
