Can't use max resolution - help needed!!! Please!!!

I don't know if I'm asking something that already been asked before, but I swear I've been trying to search and search and search and found nothing - obviously since I'm posting this thread

I just bought a LG 24" w2452t yesterday, which is said to have the max resolution at 1920x1200.

BUT, when i hooked it up using the D-SUB port (there's another one called DVI-D port but since I didn't have the cable...), the highest resolution I can get is 1600x1200, the 1920x1200 even isn't in the properties setting. Knowing this a little, I went to Advance and unchecked the box that said something like hide modes your monitor can't display. Wala, the 1920x1200 appeared. BUT again, when I applied that, the screen went black with a message which said "ANALOG OUT OF RANGE 93.5 khz / 75 hz" and then turned back to 1600x1200

I tried to install the latest driver for the video card which is the Intel(r) extreme graphics 2 but the result was no better or even worse, the screen didn't even go back to 1600x1200. It STAYED like that and I had to reboot the computer - went to the VGA mode to reset it.

When I googled this matter, seems like a lot of people having this same problem but not much find a solution yet, my theory is that what caused this problem is my pathetic video card which is a Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller that is like 90ish mb. BUT - once again, looking at the video card's specs, it seems like it can still support the 1900x1200 fine!!!

So, I totally give up on trying to solve this problem myself and turn to somewhat more experience, expert-like people on this forum to help me and people who have the same problem figuring this out once and for all!!!! THANKS in advance!!!

I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure that a D-SUB connection cannot handle a resolution of 1900x1200. I think you'll need to use DVI to go that high.

Try look for a DVI cable to use on the system.

found the problem!! my integrated video card just too weak to handle the monitor, hooked it up to a cpu with a monster card (DIV-SUB aka VGA aka Analog cable) bring the thing up to 1920x1200 smoothly

Hi Lam,

Glad to see you got the problem solved.

You probably need to order a new video card or just use the 1600x1200 resolution then.
I believed this resolution is pretty good already.

Yeah but comparing to the native resolution (1920x1200), 1600x1200's image quality sucks!!! Make my head hurts after 1 or 2 hours looking at it.... that's crazy if you know how many hours I spend to stare at the monitor everyday...

Hi Lam,

Higher resolution of course will be clearer and easier to see the characters.

I would suggest you set the LCD refresh rate a little higher so you won't get tired eyes after a long time uses.
