Re: shut down slow
This is usually caused by hardware drivers, or a security program (because they dig their claws in deep). Check Device Manager if any errors. Try unloading the stuff in your system tray before going through the Start menu and see if you can spot if one of those programs are giving problems.
When did this problem start?
Have you scanned for malware?

When you state

then it go to blue screen
|
do you mean just a blue screen, or do you mean a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)?
Click Start, Run, then (copy and paste) the following into the Run box;
%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0
then click OK.
Does the machine shut down quicker?

Re: shut down slow
Try use the following fee app to shut down your PC quick:
Quick ShutDown, the instant shutdown utility
Also, try reboot PC and press the "F8" key to enter the boot menu, select the Last Know Good configuration and hit enter.
Hope you can shut down the PC faster after the system reboot.
Hope this helps!

Re: shut down slow
Sorry, PCTestCard, but I gotta disagree all around here. That is not the purpose of Last Known Good Configuration - as seen here, - my EMPHASIS added:

Use the Last Known Good Configuration feature when you cannot start Windows XP after you make a change to your computer, or when you suspect that a change that you JUST made may cause a problem. For example, you can use this feature if you cannot start Windows XP after you install a new driver for your video adapter, or if you installed an incorrect driver and have not yet restarted your computer.
|
Last Known Good Configuration is for Startup problems immediately after a change, not for shutdown problems after several successful boots.
That said, running Last Known Good Configuration should not hurt anything.
I also would be hesitant to use a 3rd party shutdown program like Quick Shutdown or SuperFast Shutdown to shut down a broken Windows. Once this problem is resolved, then the use of such a program may be beneficial. Adding yet another program when currently unloading programs is the problem may not be the best solution.
I would check Task Manager and see what is running. If this is not a driver issue, then a program is refusing to let go - if not a security app as mentioned above, then perhaps another is hanging and perhaps it can be identified in Task Manager. Alternatively, the below are all enhanced Task Manager type programs that will show you what is running on your computer. Each is nice in its own way. What's Running is probably the easiest, with AutoRuns for the more experienced, and Process Explorer the most popular. With these, for example, you can see what processes are using each of those various svchost.exe images. AutoRuns for Windows

Re: shut down slow
Hi Digerati,
Thanks for your follow up.
I suggested to use LKGC since the PC got blue screen.
Since there is no detail message regarding the blue screen error message, I believed if there is "IRQ-conflict" error, we maybe able to be corrected by LKGC.
Anyway no harm to run the LKGC.
We can also run the 3rd party app after we can use the microsoft here first:
We can simply create a instant shutdown shortcut on our desktop.
1. Right click on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
2. copy the following command: %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00
3. Name the shortcut as instant shutdown
4. We can use this to created shortcut for fast shutdown.
This will forcibly end all running tasks and shutdown instantly.
Also, disable the startup program may help.
Click start - Run- type in msconfig and hit enter, from the pop up manual - select "startup" and deselect all start up programs and reboot PC, hope fewer startup programs can end the system task faster and thus shut down faster.
Then select the option back one by one from the startup option above again and reboot for each option selected and shut down each time to see which app caused the slow shut down.
Hope this helps!
Bill

Re: shut down slow
Here's a shutting down screen.
However, if you use the command I provided in my # 3 post, and incorporate it into a desktop shortcut (as outlined in post # 6, (but I'd use my command)), you should get the screen automatically. I do.
