Hello,
I'm trying to install a Lexmark X83 printer on a Gateway 500 PC running XP Home edition.
The installation gets about half way through and it asks me to plug in the USB cable to the PC. At this point one of two things happens, the PC shuts down and reboots or I get the following error.
"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDri vers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."
I searched and found this fix for the problem;
Windows XP instructions:
1.Click Start->Run and type Regedit. Click OK
2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\VirtualDeviceDrivers
3.Delete the VDD value
4.Click Edit->New->Multi-String Value
5.Name the value VDD, press Enter
I get as far as the Control folder and then there is no folder named VirtualDeviceDrivers or VDD.
What do I do now? Does this mean there isn't any virtual drives installed? If so where/how do I install one?
Thanks in advance for the help.
