HP graphic card

Hi I need some help please. I run a HP pavilion t461.uk desktop and I want to upgrade my graphics card from Nvidia GeForce 5200 128mb. I have XP pro 1gb of RAM and a ATX 500W PSU. If I can replace this is it a simple procedure. Thanks in anticipation.

Re: HP graphic card

All you have to do is make sure that the card is either AGP 8x or 4x or PCI. AGP is better than PCI so go with that. Installation should be relatively easy; just follow the instructions in the manual. You cannot use PCI express because your motherboard doesn't have a PCI express slot.

Re: HP graphic card

As Townsbg said, all you have to do is to look for an AGP8x or 4x graphics card. I've double checked your computer specs just to be sure. However, keep in mind that AGP graphics card might be slightly harder to find, and probably slightly more expensive than it's newer PCI-E counterparts.

Re: HP graphic card

AGP cards really aren't more expensive unless the manufacturer takes advantage of the fact that agp isn't as prevalent anymore because there is now PCI-express which is better. AGP has been around longer & aren't as powerful so they should really be cheaper but you want to make sure you aren't ripped off. Try newegg.com & you really don't need to spend anymore than $50. The link I provided searches only for AGP cards.

Re: HP graphic card

It is relatively more expensive because it is much rarer as you've also stated. For example, an AGP Geforce 6200 would cost 64.99 while a Geforce 9500 for the PCI-E costs 64.99 as well. Buck for bang, an AGP graphics card IS more expensive.

More expensive for us because they try to rip us off since there aren't as many produced.
