Removing rogue running dll file
Can anyone advise how I can get rid of a virus installed running dll file? I have deleted entries in the registry, run anti-virus, run anti-spyware, disabled system restore, rebooted, tried in safe mode all to no avail. The file is running in Windows so it is in effect locked in, disabling the service loses me my screen so I can't unlock it that way. Regsvr32 unlocking doesn't work either. Is there a way of running dos without any other files loading up because as soon as they do it is locked in. The file is xxyvunke.dll and is in c:\windows\system32, I am running XP SP3. There is no reference to it as far as I can see on the net.

Re: Removing rogue running dll file
Since you have run through various scans, I recommend you follow these HijackThis Procedures to post a HJT log for analysis.

Re: Removing rogue running dll file
First noticed this problem because auto-updates is permanently turned off in XP. Also getting some pop-ups.

I have remove your log as they do not belong in this forum. Please note the Site's instructions and posting location indicated in the HijackThis Procedures link in my previous post.

Sorry about that, it doesn't say where you post replies, I quote the instructions--'Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply'--Where to?

Re: Removing rogue running dll file
Hmmm, my apologies to you - those instructions are not very clear. You need to start a new thread and post your log here. Then one of our Malware Removal experts will take over. Sorry again for any delays this may have caused.

Now the hope is if something is found, any damage is repairable.
