LAN gaming network

If you get an answer for this let me know. I have a LAN which I set up on two PCs to play multi-player games and I can connect to the internet from both computers individually (one at a time only) but not through the host computer from the second computer on the network. I have tried everything I have found on the internet that made any sense. By the way, REPAIR never works.

Re: No internet connection - network

Welcome to DAL Joseph.

After I post this I will split this thread as it generally expedites issues to have one issue per thread.

Also I'd suggest removing your email address as that becomes a spam bot target when published on public forums.

OK. That being said can you briefly describe your setup?

Are your computers connected through a router?

Or how exactly are these two computers connected?

Re: LAN gaming network

I have a newly custom built pc, running windows xp home SP3 and I am connecting through an ethernet hub to an older Dell pc also running XP home but only updated to SP2. Both are using Ethernet NIC cards. As far as file sharing and gaming the LAN is fine but if I enable internet connection sharing (Iam on a dial-up connection) every time I open up CFS3 multi-player both computers tried to connect to the game server through their modems. I have disabled Automatic update using services.msc to stop that connection and disabled connect automatically which is a slight inconvenience. Also, I cannot connect to the internet from the old Dell through the new pc and if I turn on the Dell my custom machine tried to connect to the internet until I disabled Automatic update using services.msc to stop that connection and disabled connect automatically on both machines which is a slight inconvenience at least then neither PCs try to connect to any update site or anythig else. If the specific hardware information matters I can provide you with the specs. .

Re: LAN gaming network

Thanks for all the details!

I have no answer off the top of my head but perhaps another member will and I will try to do some research.

Generally these setups are done through a router and I am uncertain as to whether or not a dial up system is possible but I will try to find out.
