Hey Jerphee...need some help

I have XP Media Center...and I did this before and it worked but, for some odd reason its now working. I have a password that I just changed and I wrote it down but, I must have wrote it down wrong and now I am locked out of OS.

I tried safe mode which worked last time but, this time the log on screen is showing up. How do I get pass the log on to remove my pass all together??....

Re: Hey Jerphee...need some help

You want the logon screen to show up.

If the OS was installed properly you have at least two Administrator accounts.

One is the one you use everyday then there should be an account named Administrator by default.

The account named Administrator should not have a password unless you set one. If you did not set one then leave Password blank and hit Enter.

You should now be able to edit your other account.

This "built-in" Administrator account is only visible in Safe Mode in XP Home.

In XP Pro hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice on the Welcome Screen.

Anyway what you want is the Logon Screen.

If you find you only have one account then you'll need to reinstall unfortunately.

Re: Hey Jerphee...need some help

I don't have the disk anymore for this computer. It's a dell Deminsion E520. I can't seem to find the Motherboad specs. There are 2 cards plug into the MB. One is a video card (not sure if its a AGP or PCI express) and the other card is plug into a PCI slot. This card has a cable TV end, audio, and S-VID connection. Is this a sound card or another video card? So, there is video card plug into a AGP or PCI express and a card plug into a PCI slot but, this one looks like another video card or can it be a sound card?

Thoughts Jerphee?

Drivers & Downloads

Dell Manuals

Documentation

The graphics on that board are PCI_E.

The other card must have been added and sounds like a multi-media card. TV-out; audio out etc.

You still probably have an on-board audio device as well.

Dell Technical Support Home Page / Dell Troubleshooting Search

You can also purchase a replacement disk from Dell at a small price (probably just shipping and handling).

Just by the way Dell links you to this page for lost passwords:

How to log on to your Windows XP-based computer if you forget your password or if your password expires

How do know what video card that installed in the PCI express,..the other card is pluged into the PCI express and is a multi-media? having the multi-media really isn't a big deal because I can just remove it right?

Re: Hey Jerphee...need some help

Your manual that I listed above shows your graphics device is PCI_E.

The other slots are PCI.

You can remove the multi-media if you don't use it.

It is for hooking your computer to a TV for both sound and graphics.

The PCI_E should have your monitor plugged into it. It is the larger/longer slot on the board.

Correct Jephree, the video card that is plugged into the PCI_E I don't know what it is? I see NVIDIA on the card it self but, don't know which one it is.

Re: Hey Jerphee...need some help

If it is not labeled you'll need to get the machine running to tell you.

It will be in the Device Manager and also most likely ID'd in the BIOS.

Dell does not specify a card as it is apparently an add on upgrade.

That board also has on board Intel graphics.
