Unhappy No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

i have installed this used board and everything is fine apart from having no USB. Device manager says everything is OK but no USB devices work. There seems to be power to them as flash drives will light up but nothing else.
This seems to be a big issue with these boards. I have tried MSI support but they just don't reply. Have tried reinstalling drivers, XP etc but nothing works.
Any other suggestions would be welcome.

MSI says to load all Windows Updates. SP3.

MSI -- MICRO-STAR INT'L CO., LTD.

Angry Re: No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have SP3 and all possible updates. MSI do not supply drivers for XP. They tell you to install all Service Packs which I have done. Also, it is fully updated. I think it may be a problem with the board itself. Looking on various forums, this seems to be a major problem with these boards.
Any other suggestions welcome.

Re: No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

USB drivers are incorporated into XP & Vista.

Can you share some links you already researched?

Also I note that board has both USB 2 & 1 meaning perhaps only a particular slot will be USB 2.

If your device is USB 2 it will not work on a USB 1 port. Have you tried every port?

If you're having problems with USB ports, read on...

Sorry, but I'm not sure how to insert links. Hope above are OK. These are the main two I have been looking at. As you will see, I am not alone!

Have tried all ports and none work. The front two are connected to headers on the board which are USB 2.0 and they do not work.

Re: No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

Thanks for the links.

As the sun is rising I must retire for the day but I'll be back tomorrow after sunset.

I will read the threads and see if I can detect anything.

You say you get power but does XP recognize any device via the "ding-dong" USB detected?

Are you sure your Plug and Play services are set to automatic?

Have you tried booting the computer with the USB device installed prior to boot?

I assume your keyboard and mouse are both PS/2?

Again I apologize for having to run out at the moment.

Unhappy Re: No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

Plugged in various USB devices then started Windows. Again nothing. Also, went into services.msc and Plug and Play is enabled and set as Automatic.

I'm not sure where else to go on this one.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Any suggestions welcome.

Re: No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

You did not reply to jephree's statement about your keyboard and mouse - how do they connect? PS/2 (small round connectors) or USB?

In the BIOS Setup Menu, are all USB devices enabled (usually listed under Integrated Peripherals or Devices)?

Re: No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

Both keyboard and mouse are PS2. I was using usb mouse but had to swap as it did not work.
I have checked BIOS and all devices are enabled.
Thanks for helping. Any more suggestions welcome.

Re: No usb with MSI 7037 865gm3 board.

Well, then it would look like a motherboard problem. I would uninstall all USB devices in Device Manager and reboot and hope, with fingers crossed, Windows sees the devices, loads the necessary drivers, and then enables the ports. If that does not work, and everything else is fine, then it would seem the USB controller on the motherboard is gone (assuming the wires/connectors are not loose). I personally would not mess with it, and would install a USB card, similar to Amazon.com: 6 Port Pci USB 2.0 Card: Electronics.

Also, note that USB ports have a limited current carrying capability. For that reason, adding to many devices that are powered through the USB port (and not with a separate power block), can damage the USB I/O controller. If you have several devices, consider getting a Self-powered USB Hub.
