unknown display problem

hello,
i ran my anti-virus pgm and it located and removed a trojan horse, but after that when a prgram screen opens (system restore, mc afee) there is nothing in the display. i can go online and the pages display ok but i can't run my virus program or access system restore.
i tried booting in safe mode but the same problem exists. any ideas?
thanks
gregg
