Symantec; reformat?

Okay, I tried to uninstall Symantec AntiVirus by myself by following some very bad advice. I basically went into Program Files and tried to delete the files that were related to Symantec when I couldn't uninstall it by Add/Remove. Now every time I right click, Symantec installation pops up, I can't open Malwarebyte, and I can't open my drivers (I have to right click, click cancel on the Symantec installation, and then click explore in order to open my external drives). Of course I re-found D-A-L AFTER this happened. I have a strong feeling I might have to reformat my computer.

Re: Symantec; reformat?

I'm not sure what year I have. I'm a college student so I had to download it from my university's site in order to access on-campus internet. It's Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1.5.5000 (Symantec Corporation).

Re: Symantec; reformat?

Stupid question: is the product key necessary?

Re: Symantec; reformat?

No. Only if you wish to reinstall it.

I would never install Norton in the first place.

I understand it was not your choice.

So no it is not necessary.

Re: Symantec; reformat?

I uninstalled Symantec. I can right click without the Symantec installation pop up, but I still can't access my C or E drive. Every time I try an error window appears saying, "Windows cannot find 'RECYLER \S - 3 - 3 - 65 . . . . com.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

Also, I just found out my sound doesn't work. Neither on youtube, Winamp, or Windows Media.

UPDATE:
After I shut down the computer for the night the sound mysteriously works, for now. I downloaded SpyBot Search & Destroy and while it was scanning I was hit by a blue screen (didn't see what it said since it happened so fast) and for a while I couldn't get pass the start up screen. I detached the battery and blew some dirt off - didn't know if it would work - and started my computer up again, which worked. Oddly enough I can access Malwarebyte too.

Re: Symantec; reformat?

Actually, regular Norton Removal Tool doesn't fully work on corporate edition.
It's better to double check, everything is gone, by reading here: How to uninstall Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.5 and 7.6 client for Windows NT/2000/XP manually

Not exactly. I can access my C drive now, but I still can't access my E drive when I insert an external hard drive. The same "RECYCLER . . . ." error pops up. Broni may be right; there still may be some left overs from last nights' ordeal unistallation of my Symantec Coporate Edition.
