service packs

I have a pc running xp pro and would like to make a cd/dvd holding xp's service packs as msoft is ending support. I've looked all over ms site and cannot find a difinitive link.

Someone told me all I needed was sp3 as it contained the previous sp's. I've read on the ms site that states you need sp1, sp1a and sp2 prior to running sp3. is this so. TIA

Windows XP Service Pack 3

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) is a free update for Windows XP. SP3 includes all previously released Windows XP updates, including security updates, hotfixes, and select out-of-band releases. To install SP3, either Windows XP Service Pack 1a (SP1a) or Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) must already be installed.

Slipstreaming an XP SP2 or SP3 CD would be ideal.

As to XP support it is not ending anytime soon. Last reports I saw were well through 2010.

Re: service packs

The install files themselves will be available for quite some time even on automatic updates. If you want you can still download win 2k service packs. All they are stopping at this time is release of non-critical updates unless you are willing to pay them. A service pack is a critical update.
