word 2007

I have lately a lot of problms with my Word on WinXP. Now I find that in the "save as type" slot there is a "Word 2007 document" entry.
When checking in microsoft I found that it is a new Ofice version and probably entered my computer un some misterious way. Probably this is the cause of my problems.
How can I get rid of this. I do not find Office 2007 or word 2007 in any program list and from various remarks on the Internet i learn that there is no uninstall option for 2007
What can be done
Please advise
thanks

Re: word 2007

That should not causing any problems. The Word 2007 option was part of an Office Update. It is a good thing as it does not force old Office users to upgrade. Unless you select that option, it does nothing.

So what sort of problems are you having? Be sure to tell us about your computer, too.

Re: word 2007

Thanks dobhar. At least this problem does not seem to be a problem, but a feature.

MS likes their so called "featuress". I don't even understand what the problem is. Word 2007 is suddenly on your computer? MS just doesn't "suddenly" install it on your computer because they want you to buy it. Is it a work computer? If so whom ever is in charge of the computers there probably installed it on all of them. In that case there is probably nothing you can do about it after all it is not "your" computer.

For best results please:
1) State your OS(s), any software involved in your problem, & any major updates (i.e. service pack, version, edition, service release, roll up, beta release, distribution [Linux], etc.) to your OS/software as applicable to your problem.
2) For hardware issues also provide your system information: RAM, processor, etc. in addition to your OS.
3) If you have more than one OS on your computer, how does your problem relate to your other OS(s)? This is especially important for hardware issues.
4) Provide as much detail as possible, being specific as even the most minute detail could help others help you solve the problem. Please tell us what you have tried. Please tell us the make/model of your computer.
5) Respond with the result(s) of the suggestion(s) from the other users to provide feedback, even if this only means saying "this worked!"
If you don't know your system information please consider running our hardware scan and post or PM me your link.

No!!!! Read the opening post again, then read my response. Word 2007 referenced here appears as an option in the "Save as" list. The list was updated during an Office Update. It is not a problem - nothing to resolve - nothing amiss was done if they have Office and use Microsoft Update. The "Save as" lists were updated on my Office 2003 systems here too.

That's right and nothing of the sort was suggested.

At this point, let's wait a bit for idr to respond before this thread is closed - the Office problems he is having can be worked in the other threads.

Re: word 2007

It sounds to me that he has the Office 2007 compatibility pack installed. There is nothing wrong with having that installed. Idr if that is it it gives the option of saving and using the new formats, introduced with office 2007, with older versions of office. But if you don't want it you can remove it.

Re: word 2007

When trying to open a Word file from the list on a HD partition i receive the attached messages.
This began from the day that Word 2007 trial version was installed on my WinXP computer.
I find no way to uninstall the trial program, as it doesn't appear on the program list
Please advise how to get rid of it
Thanks

Re: word 2007

Okay - that is a totally different description from your opening post - which talked about save as, and not opening a file.

What version of Windows? Did you try compatibility mode? Why are you using Total Commander?

Re: word 2007

Hello Digerati
I m a quite an old man and it is hard for me to learn the new, sophistcateed MS ways.
My WindowsXP Profesioal version is 5.1 with SP2
I understand that Word 2007 is installed on my computer and i would like to get rid of it, however I do not find any mention of the program except in the "save as" slot.
If you can help me to uninstall the 2007 I will graetly appreciate this
And also - I use the Total Commander because it contains several features very convenient for my work
Thanks
