Unhappy How to remove a program when it does not appear in Add/Remove?

I have recently purchased a thing called KWorld DVD Maker. What I want it to do is connect my computer to a VCR so I can copy video to the computer and turn video cassettes into DVDs. It came bundled with a couple of applications from Cyberlink (PowerDirector 5 and PowerProducer 4).
The instructions were minimal and contained no help beyond installation, and the so called manual was nothing but installation instructions in pdf. The manual obtained from the KWorld site says the product comes bundled with PVR software and has 2 extra pages showing the PVR interface, but the CyberLink apps have no such interface, and I am unable to capture the video, and what is more the Cyberlink apps both crash as soon as they are started.
I have either got a dud gadget, or the whole thing is a dud, and I cannot remove the CyberLink software, it does not appear in Add/Remove Programs, and the uninstall option on the start menu do nothing. The whole lot is going back to the shop for a refund. I want the whole thing off my computer and even going into Program Files and attempting to remove the Cyberlink folder got me an access denied message.
I know some of this stuff should perhaps be in the video editing forum, where I will be visiting shortly to find out how people are connecting VCRs to computers, but what I want here is advice on how to uninstall the software. Should I try Eraser?

Re: How to remove a program when it does not appear in Add/Remove?

This situation has gotten worse!
After reinstalling the software in another attempt to get it to work I now cannot remove the KWorld software either.
Can I use Eraser on software/program files?
Somebody help, please.
Can I use a command line to delete these things, eg Run uninstall C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerProducer

Try Revo: Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems

Re: How to remove a program when it does not appear in Add/Remove?

Hi Broni,
Just downloaded it. I have to reply to a couple of other threads and I will try it out. Looks to be a handy little utility to have on hand.
Thanks heaps for the suggestion, I will post with results.

Re: How to remove a program when it does not appear in Add/Remove?

Hi Broni,
A friend suggested using Windows Movie Maker for capture, and the KWorld is presently capturing video as I write, though not through any of their software. The USB 2860 does appear necessary though.
It remains to be seen if the CyberLink apps will still crash.
So for now I will keep my powder dry on the deletion issue, but though Windows Movie Maker has resolved the capture issue I am still skeptical about the CyberLink stuff.
When I have something to author I will give them another try. If they still crash, and nothing has changed that would stop that, I will try out the Revo Uninstaller.
Will post when I have news. I have picked a short video file to practice with.

Re: How to remove a program when it does not appear in Add/Remove?

Well progress of sorts.
Captured Video okay, CyberLink apps still crash on opening.
Revo Uninstaller does not list either app in the main window, and in hunter mode when I click on the desktop icon I get a message like this:
It does not appear in the main window so manual uninstall is not possible.
What about if I try just deleting the program files?

Re: How to remove a program when it does not appear in Add/Remove?

You could do this, but be prepared to be getting some possible error messages afterwards, which may force you to play with registry.
If you're ready to do so, make sure to create new restore point before getting into registry.

Eek!
Last time I tried messing around in registry I ended up reinstalling Windows.
Any less labor intensive suggestions?

Re: How to remove a program when it does not appear in Add/Remove?

I'd simply leave that program alone, then.
