Infinite restarting

Hi,

My 5-year-old Fujitsu laptop recently has this problem of rebooting infinitely. I did not install any new hardware or software. The only thing different that I did was that for the past 3 years, I only ran it on AC power, and right before this problem occurred, I unplugged the power and ran it on the battery for about half an hour.

The laptop starts booting up, and while the Windows XP screen is running, I would get the following screen:

"Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is FAT32.

One of your disks need to be checked for consistency.
..."

The laptop then continues to check disk consistency. Occasionally, it'll report some entries that need to be repaired, while other times there aren't any repairing to be done.

The laptop then restarts itself, sometimes after the check is completed, other times while the check is still running. Right before the laptop restarts, I'll get the blue screen for a couple of seconds (too fast to really see what it says). I am able to get the blue screen to stay on my screen by using one of the F8 options, though, and it says:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
...
Technical information:
*** STOP:0x000000D1 (0x73656CD7, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF902BA68)
*** w22n51.sys - Address F902BA68 base at F9007000, DateStamp 404c5c4c

I am unable to get into safe mode - the system hangs at agpCPQ.sys. Trying to load the last known good configuration doesn't work - the laptop continues to restart itself. I also don't have the Windows XP CD, so I can't try to use the Recovery Console method that I've seen suggested on the Net.

What can I do?

Thank you.

Re: Infinite restarting

I found this article on the driver. When it tells you that the drive needs to be checked for consistency it gives you a few seconds to press a key [any key] to stop it from scanning. If you are able to do so and it boots up entirely right click on my computer --> manage --> services and applications --> services. Find the apg440 service , double click on it, and under start up type choose disable. If you can't find this service then from the start menu click on run and the type in cmd and then on the black window type in disable agp440. If it is successful you should see the message "service_disabled". You also need to update your graphics driver. Please tell us the make and model of your computer and perhaps we can help you locate them.

You also need to let XP scan your hard drive. From my computer right click on C --> Properties --> Tools --> Check Now. Check both of the options and then hit start. This could take a while. Report back if there are any errors.

Good luck.

1) State your OS(s), any software involved in your problem, & any major updates (i.e. service pack, version, edition, service release, roll up, beta release, distribution [Linux], etc.) to your OS/software as applicable to your problem.
2) For hardware issues also provide your system information: RAM, processor, etc. in addition to your OS.
3) If you have more than one OS on your computer, how does your problem relate to your other OS(s)? This is especially important for hardware issues.
4) Provide as much detail as possible, being specific as even the most minute detail could help others help you solve the problem. Please tell us what you have tried. Please tell us the make/model of your computer.
5) Respond with the result(s) of the suggestion(s) from the other users to provide feedback, even if this only means saying "this worked!"
If you don't know your system information please consider running our hardware scan and post or PM me your link.

Re: Infinite restarting

I was able to boot up entirely into the desktop previously, but only for a few seconds before it restarted again. Now, I can't even seem to get to that stage, whether I complete the check for consistency or not.

Re: Infinite restarting

Yes, the boot up hangs at agpCPQ.sys, so I can't boot in safe mode. Neither does booting up using the Last Known Good Configuration work, as the laptop just restarts itself again (and again...).

Re: Infinite restarting

w22n51.sys is Intel Wireless driver
Go to BIOS, and disable LAN.

Check also here: Problems when Windows XP tries to load the Agp440.sys service

Re: Infinite restarting

What was I doing I got the driver wrong. Maybe I was looking at another post. Oh I found that because a hit was on a thread in another forum & a post said that it was related to the apg440 driver and I followed that link with out even looking at the driver. My mistake. Sorry about the confusion. If I find something else I'll post it. Broni you can delete the previous post if you want.

Thank you! This seemed to have worked so far and I am able to boot up normally.

Re: Infinite restarting

Very good
Now, since you can boot without a problem, and if you use wireless, you can try to reinstall the driver.
