Sound problems

So i decided i needed to format my computer (blue screen of death or watever you like to call it) and now i have no sound i found the correct AC'97 software that i need but half way through the installation it says...

please insert the compact Disk labeled Realtek
AC97 audio driver disk into your CD-ROM drive (E: )
and then click ok

i then click ok and it says...

The file 'ALCXWDM.SYS' on Realtek AC97 Audio Disk is needed

If im correct by saying

dont know if this info helps but it says my motherboard
manufacturer - ASUSTeK Computer INC
Model - A7V600-X REV 1 .xx

Thanks in advance for any help or advice given

if i dont have sound soon i will be like ---> (joke)

Re: Sound problems

Well, first, blue screens typically indicate hardware problems, and not something normally needing a format to fix, which is always a last resort. You can end up months, or even years behind in security updates, and still not learn what was wrong.

You should use the drivers provided by the motherboard maker, typically found on the utilities disk that came with the motherboard, or from their websites - yours are here. Make sure on-board sound is enabled in the BIOS Setup Menu.

Re: Sound problems

thanks for the fast reply i got my pc built for me by a friend of a friend not to sure where the disks are now (or if i ever recieved them)
I couldnt figure out what the problem was as i had no access to the internet as when i started my computer it would get up to the windows xp load page (when first booted) then go to a blue screen and then restart so i had no choice unless i wanted to pay to fix it (which i decided against)
thanks for the link but when i press open folder it doesnt open :| (do you know a way to fix that?

ive formated my computer before and the only problem i had was the sound everything else was fine

Re: Sound problems

Did you install all your motherboard drivers after the format?
