.tmp files

Hi guys I have a long list of .tmp files in system32 which I have not noticed before and cant remember if they're supposed to be there. The info on them turns up MSVCR70.DLL MS VS.NET. Are all TMP files safe to delete? And are'nt they supposed to appear in 'cleanup'?

Normally they all are safe to delete

dont just delete things in the system32 folder, if you must, copy the names and post and I will tell you what is safe to delete

How much space do the files take up? If they don't take up too much space, leave them. Two good rules:
1) If it ain't broke don't fix it
2) If it looks like it might be important, chances are it is

Both of those I have learned through experience :roll:

:-) Thanks, its just that I have to take these files into consideration because they add considerable time to a scan and not all apps can be completely customized. They're all 336KB and start at 1A00.tmp, 1A0.tmp, 1A0A.tmp, 1A0B.tmp, 1A0C.tmp, 1A0D.tmp, 1A0E.tmp, 1A01, etc etc etc FFE.tmp, FFF.tmp. - hundreds of 'em - the folder takes an age to open! I suppose you may tell me they're connected with a certain software or Microsoft, but I can not pin it down to which one and have not appeared before!
The only new app I have is diskeeper and it cant be that. Also they were all made the same time.

Weird, I just scanned my System32 folder and found no .tmp files. Be careful before you delete them, you never know what they may be used for. If anything, try googling

sure fire test....copy them all to a seperate folder on your desktop, delete in the original folder, reboot, if you don't bluescreen, your probably ok

don't say i didnt warn you tho...Temporary files are used for a wide variety of tasks. They are usually deleted after their purpose is served but circumstances sometimes cause them to be retained. It's tricky determining if you can delete the file or not since some programs may hide critical data within a .TMP file (not a good programming practice if you're a programmer reading this!).
