USB mass storage problems

Hello Everyone,

I have a 6 months old Compaq Presario notebook R4100 using Windows XP with a 300 GB USB storage device. The storage device was working fine last week but now when I plug it in Windows makes the bling blong sound but it doesn't show up in "My Computer" so I can't access the files I have on the storage device. I tried using a different USB cord but that didn't work, I also tried plugging it into a backup older CPU I had around the house and it doesn't work in there either.

When I run System healthscan on my notebook it says

This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed.
To resolve this error code, make sure the device is connected to the computer correctly.
For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully and that all adapter cards are properly seated.
It may be possible to remove the device and redetect it using the Add New Hardware wizard.

Any ideas how to get this to work the size of the storage device made it pretty costly so I would obviously prefer not to buy another one. Thank you for your time any advice would be appreciated.

Tony

Did the device come with any installation disk russoantonio?

If it did then it should be a simple case of reinstalling the software

If it worked ok last week, then do a System Restore to a point before it failed.

Cheers
