Audio Problems

Hello everyone,

I have a Compaq Presario Notebook R4100 series that is approx 6 months old and I am running Windows XP. When the computer was brand new it played DVD's/CD's and the sound was fine. Now all of a sudden when I play any type of music/movie from a disk the sound is choppy and distorted but this only occurs when I play via disks. I have various movies and music stored on my harddrive and when I play them that way the sound is fine. I tried reinstalling the device drivers and that didn't work. Any ideas how to help this newbie out?

Thanks

Hope tis helps

Hi Russoantonio, Reading both your threads, I am getting the feeling that you may have corrupted some of your drivers, and perhaps system files as well.
The two problems "seem" intrinsically linked with drivers at this stage. I would suggest you uninstall drivers for audio device, and disconnect the storage device; uninstalling any drivers it has as well.

Go to start, run, and type in sfc /scannow
Be careful to observe the space between the c and the /
Have your XP disk ready, or you may not need that with your system set up; just be aware that windows may ask for it.

Reboot, and replace audio drivers.

Reboot and once the PC is idle, insert the USB storage device. Wait for the XP sound and proceed as necessary; adding its own drivers if they can with the product.

Reboot, and see what happens. It is advised after doing an ["sfc" system file check] that you go straight to Microsoft and reinstall any critical updates that "may" be needed.

Hope that one of our ideas works, or all combined...
-Ana
