I just tried to add this page to my favorites so I wouldn't lose it and it said unable, file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. Lately the notifier in the bottom right corner has been saying yahoo/aim.exe files are corrupt, yet they still work... ????

How did you reinstall XP? And why?
If you did not do a Clean Install that might be the most expedient solution.
A good guide here:

I reinstalled with the Windows XP reinstallation cd. I've used it before on other computers and never had any problems with it. I'll try to reinstall if you guys don't know an immediate fix.
The file or directory C:/$MFT is corrupt is what it says.

MFT is the Master File Table and the heart of NTFS.
You could try running chkdsk but a reinstall appears necessary.
Try running Check Disk:
start Run... cmd
Type:
chkdsk /f
When asked if you want to run on next boot? Y or N?
Type: Y
And reboot,
This will check for and fix any hard disk errors.
Did you have any problem before installing software such as Yahoo or AIM?

I can't reboot my computer right now because I have something running that I cannot save. But I will try it.

NTFS, short for NT File System
http://kb.iu.edu/data/aexw.html
That is your file system unless for some reason you chose to install FAT or FAT32 which were the older '98 file systems.

Now it's saying that yahoo msngr & aim is corrupt again... that /$MFT is corrupt. Is there a way to fix it without reinstalling windows?
