Emachine with XP help please
I am having trouble with an emachine (I know, who doesn't?):idunno:
I have had to change the mother board and now XP won't run (drivers?). I have recovered the 'My Documents' from the hard drive, and have run the 'recovery' disk supplied which reformatted the drive but as it only loads the original drivers back on, XP doesn't like the new board and so won't run, even when selecting safe mode's.
Is there any way I can sort this out? Is it a case of aquireing XP on its own then regeristering it with the original details??
Can someone please help me
Thank you in advance.

your copy of XP on the original hard drive will be for the motherboard that was installed, the new motherboard will have different chipset drivers etc.
did the original motherboard die or have you still got it?

Hi Brain _damage.
The original motherboard died, taking out the PSU with it. I have a very close equivalent board, but not close enough obviously. I have all the new drivers on a disk supplied with it. Is there any hope?

I doubt it, they'll be for the machine they were made for so may not work with any other motherboard

I was told that I may be able to load the required drivers either via USB stick, or possibly copy the right files direct onto the hard drive. If this is possible, does anyone know which drivers I might need and where to copy them? I think I noticed a message on the Emachine boot saying that the 'Config' file was missing / corrupt in Windows\System or something like that.
Can anyone help please?

the e machine disc will maybe have the motherboard drivers so as soon as you load that it'll put the drivers for the original board not the one you've got now.
you may have to get another copy of XP that's work on any machine or get another board etc exactly the same as the original

Would it be cheaper and easier to put on ME or something and then buy an upgrade package? Does an upgrade work as well as the full version?
